Oral Health Challenges in Indigenous Communities

Canada is currently in the midst of what is being described as an oral health crisis among Indigenous communities. Poor access to dental care, lack of water fluoridation, poor nutrition, and systemic racism are some of the main challenges in dire need of redress.

In this video, Dr. Sheri McKinstry, a pediatric dentist from Saskatoon and founder of the recently established Indigenous Dental Association of Canada, outlines the scale of the current oral health crisis among Indigenous communities in Canada and discusses what dental practitioners across the country can do to help.

“We need to do better when it comes to providing care in the communities. I think everybody has a role to play.”
